Material, care properties, and the full color range will be confirmed and added here once scope is finalized – see the note above on related pages that will need updating at the same time.
Choosing the Right Varsity Jacket Materials
The traditional varsity jacket body is built from melton wool, a dense blend known for holding its shape and insulating well in cooler weather – which is why it’s remained the standard for decades. Genuine leather sleeves add durability and the visual contrast that defines the classic varsity silhouette; vegan leather offers a cruelty-free alternative in the same silhouette for anyone who prefers not to use animal leather.
Inside the jacket, silky satin lining keeps things comfortable and helps the jacket go on smoothly. For lettering, chenille gives the raised, textured look most people associate with a varsity letter, while flat felt lettering suits solid numbers, mascots, or a cleaner block-letter style – many jackets use both together.
Matching Your Colors
Trying to match a specific character’s colorway, your school or team colors, or a favorite show or game’s palette? Our team can help you find the closest melton wool, leather, and chenille combination to your target colors before you finalize your design – see our FAQ for more on how color matching works, or start with our custom order form and note your target colors in the design details.
Materials & Colors FAQ
Can I mix materials on one jacket – like a wool body with vegan leather sleeves?
Yes. Mixing wool, leather, vegan leather, and satin across the body, sleeves, and lining is standard – specify your combination through our custom order form.
Chenille or felt lettering – which should I choose?
Chenille gives the raised, textured look most people associate with a classic varsity letter. Felt is flat and solid-colored, better suited to clean block numbers or mascot silhouettes. Many jackets use both together.
Will my satin lining or wool body fade or lose color over time?
With proper care (see our Jacket Care guide), the materials we use are chosen for colorfastness under normal wear. Avoid frequent washing and direct prolonged sun exposure to keep colors sharp longest.
Can I request a color that’s not shown in the swatches?
Note your target color in the custom order form’s design details, and our team will confirm whether we can match it or suggest the closest available option.
Is genuine leather or vegan leather better for durability?
Genuine leather develops character and patina over years of wear and is very durable with occasional conditioning. Vegan leather is a lower-maintenance, cruelty-free alternative in the same silhouette – see Jacket Care for care differences between the two.
How do I match my jacket colors exactly to a team, school, or character palette?
Note your target colors in the custom order form’s design details, and our team will confirm the closest melton wool, leather, and chenille combination before production – see Matching Your Colors above.
Are Letter Sweaters available in the same colors as the jackets?
Letter Sweaters are a new product line we’re still finalizing – the full color range will be confirmed and added here once scope is set.
